Among the early day families that lived at Marysville was Wesley B. Burney, father of Julian Gunter Burney of this city. Mr. Burney bought a handsome home in Marysville that had been built by John Burton. Burney's home was Burneyville, where he owned a vast acreage in the Red River bottoms. He did not live for a long period at Marysville. When the Chickasaw townsite commission was organized in 1898 under the Curtis Act, Mr. Burney was placed on this commission. He made his home in Ardmore at that time. Prior to his death, he moved back to the old homestead at Burneyville.
