Luke Michael Ancona, 90, a native and life long resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on January 18, 2014. Luke is survived by his son David Michael Ancona and his wife Kathleen of West Palm Beach, Florida, his daughters Eva Ancona Chaffin and her husband Edward, and Martha Ancona Cedotal and her husband Faron, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Erica Catherine Chaffin of Indianapolis, Indiana, Andrew Michael Cedotal of New York, New York and Sean O'Brien Ancona of West Palm Beach, Florida; and brothers Roy and Frank Ancona. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Lola Macalusa Ancona and his infant grandson Matthew Grant Cedotal, his father Vincent Ancona of Poggiorealle, Italy and Catherine Levera Ancona of Paulina, Louisiana; brothers Vincent, Anthony, Joseph, Johnny and his sisters Mary James, Lena Ancona, and Katy Dispenza. Luke was a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School and then went into the US Army serving his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne division. He was a proud member of the greatest generation ever as a soldier that participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was decorated with the Bronze Arrowhead, WWII Victory Medal, the Croix De Guerre, and the Belgium Fourragere. He was a successful and generous business man who started his first grocery store in the late 1940's and in the 1950's opened up Ancona's Stop and Save with his brothers on North Street in Baton Rouge. Luke was well known in the Baton Rouge community for a kind heart and took care of his employees and customers as if they were his own family. He was an avid golfer and a charter member of Fairwood Country Club. He also loved playing poker and even up until the time of his death you could find him playing cards every Wednesday with his lifetime golf friends. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, he was beloved by all that knew him. Special thanks to his caregivers Willie Mae Selvage, Laura Carter, Adrienne Kelly, and Jacky Wells who took loving care of both him and his wife Lola in their final time together. The family will receive family and friends Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East located at 11000 Florida Blvd and at the church one hour prior to mass on Wednesday. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 10am.
