"Death of Samuel Joy.
________
Samuel Joy, an old and respected citizen of Saguache, passed into spirit life on the 16th, his death occurring at the residence of Sheriff Montieth, Mrs. Montieth being the daughter of the deceased with whom he had made his home for a number of years. Father Joy had been an invalid and a great sufferer for a long time and his death can only be looked upon as a happy release. He was born March 24, [1824], in Licking County, Ohio, and had at his death attained to the venerable age of 87 years.
In 1846 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Boggs and to this union ten children were born of whom seven survive him. Those living are Mrs. Sarah Watkins of Boise, Idaho, Irwin Joy of Walla Walla, Wash., Charles Joy of Dixon, Cali., Mrs. Juliette Montieth, Mrs. Lorena Marshal, and Warren Joy of Saguache, and Mrs. Emma Clark of Bolivar, Mo. Mr. Joy was one of the pioneers of the valley, having come to Colorado in 1874 and has resided here ever since.
Funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. Merrill of the M.E. church after which interment took place in the Saguache cemetery."
