MRS. GEORGE JANSEN

Mrs. George Jansen passed away March 3rd 1921, at 6 a. m. at her home in the north part of the city age 72 years 11 months and 13 days.

She has been in failing health for a number of years and the last few years has been confined to her home constantly but bore her suffering patiently.

Hensina Nelson was born in 1848 in Denmark, and in 1871 came to America with her parents and located near Atchison, Kansas, where she was married to George Jansen in 1874. To this union were born three sons and three daughters.

In 1881 the family removed to Nortonville, Kansas, where they resided until 1902 when they removed to Barber county, locating northeast of Kiowa, where they resided until about six years ago when they removed to Kiowa on account of Mrs. Jansen’s failing health.

Mrs. Jansen was a devout christian woman, she united with the Lutheran church when a child, and when they removed to Kiowa she joined the Congregational church.

Mrs. Jansen is survived by her husband George Jansen, three sons William Jansen of Atchison, Kansas, Nelson Jansen of Kiowa, Harry Jansen of Guymon, Oklahoma, and three daughters, Mrs. Cecilia Conroy of Merridan, Kansas, Minnie Hinkle, of Kiowa, and Mrs. Emma Groff, of Ellis Kansas, who were all in attendance at the funeral except Mrs. Groff, and an only brother who resides in Michigan.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. T. K. Bosworth conducted the services.

The floral offerings were beautiful.

The body was followed by a large cortege of friends to Riverview cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest.

The friends of the bereaved family extend sympathy in their sorrow.

MRS. HENSINA JANSEN

Mrs. Hensina Nelson Jansen was a native of Denmark. She was born in 1848. When she was twenty-three years of age her parents came to America and settled in Atchison, Kansas. Here she met Geo. Jansen to whom she was married in the spring of 1874. For seven years they lived in or near Atchison. But in 1881 they made their home in Nortonville, Kansas. Here they remained for twenty-one years when Mr. Jansen visited Kiowa and determined to remove here.

The children of the family are: Will Jansen of Atchison, Nels Jansen of Kiowa, Mrs. Cecelia Conroy of Meriden, Kans., Harry Jansen of Guymon, Okla., Mrs. Minnie Collins of Kiowa and Mrs. Emma Groff of Ellis, Kans.

Mrs. Jansen was confirmed in the Lutheran church as a girl. In Atchison they found a Lutheran church where they worshiped. In Nortonville they joined the Presbyterian church. On coming to Kiowa they united with the Congregational church. So her life has been associated with christian activities from childhood.

Of the members of the Nelson family one remains, a brother who is of a still greater age. He is living in Michigan.

Mrs. Jansen died Thursday, Mar. 3, and the funeral was held Mar. 5 in the Congregational church. Her later years had been spent in weakness and suffering. But she showed the beautiful trait of gratitude and patience which is the richest accumulation of a life.
