CANBY, Or.; Aug. 12. – (Special).) – John H. White, vice-president of the Terminal Ice & Storage company at Portland was injured fatally when his car struck the south approach of the Molalla river bridge and rolled over the embankment 18 or 20 feet in the river bank. Mr. White was unconscious when taken from the wreck and was taken to Oregon City in an ambulance, where he died later. His chest was crushed. They said White passed a truck on the hill between Aurora and Barlow and nearly went into the ditch. He was travelling at a high speed when the car struck the bridge.
John H. White, vice-president of Terminal Ice & Cold Storage company, 266 Hoyt street, had been[illegible] concern for the past six years according to Robert Ireland, Manager. He formerly was engaged in the practice of law here with John [illegible.]
Mr. White was 40 years old July. Mr. Ireland said, and was a native Oregonian. His father, Samuel White now resides at Phoenix, Ariz., and a brother is in the east. Mr. White is survived by the widow, Mrs. Zola White. The family home was at the Campbell Court.
Mr. White went to Salem Tuesday for business, Mr. Ireland said, and stayed overnight when his business was delayed him until late in the day. He had an important meeting yesterday morning and is believed to have been hurrying back to Portland in order to keep his appointment.
Mr. White was widely known in civic and social circles in Portland was a member of the Waverly Country club, University club and Arlington club.
