Clifford Bernard Dirkes 96, of Muskegon, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday October 26, 2014. He was surrounded by family members and friends. Bernard lived in the Ravenna and Muskegon area for his entire life. He was born on October 30, 1917 on a farm in Ravenna. Later, he and his wife moved to Muskegon and had four children. He worked at the Anaconda Wire Company as a tool and Die maker and retired when he was 64 years old. In December of 1982, he married Ruth Mae Place. Ruth and Bernard were married for almost 25 years and he loved her dearly. He lived a full life, loved farming and being out in the woods. He was a wonderful, caring man and will be missed by many. Bernard is survived by his three children, Lois Giles of Cheboygan, MI, Marva (Ron) Babcock of Wilcox, AZ and Ken (Judy) Dirkes of Florence, KY. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Fred Allison; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Dirkes of Grand Rapids and Dorothy Place of Ravenna. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth M. Dirkes; daughter, Judy Allison; a sister and brother, two half brothers and a half sister. We wish to extend our personal thanks to his niece, Teddi Place for all her tender love and care for our father. She is the person that made it possible for him to live in his own home until his life ended. Funeral Services for Clifford Bernard Dirkes will be conducted on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 1 PM at the Ravenna United Methodist Church in Ravenna with Pastor Carl Black officiating.
