Captain Samuel Flint was the son of Samuel Flint and his wife, Ruth (Putnam) Flint, a daughter of John and Hannah Putnam. He commanded a company of minutemen in Colonel Timothy Pickering's regiment which marched on the Lexington Alarm on April 19, 1775, leading a company of minute men from Danvers, Massachusetts.

Samuel Flint was married on January 12, 1758 to Ede Upton (1739-1812), the daughter of Joseph
and Mary Upton. Their children were:

Ede (1764-1840); married Daniel Needham
Hezekiah (1766-1818)
