Erwin J. Wernle, 99, milk hauler in Bond Co. for over 65 years, died 8:50 a.m. Monday, 14Oct, at Utlaut Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home with minister Darryl Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn cemetery.
Born 10Dec1891 in Grantfork, his parents were the late Samuel & Elizabeth (Hug) Wernle. He began his milk hauling occupation at about age 15 taking routes that supplied the Helvetia Milk Condensing plant in Greenville, later becoming Pet Milk Co. He covered all of Bond Co. from Panama to Keyesport. He also did farming, moving from Grantfork to Pierron, then to the Greenville area. He retired in the early 1970's.
On 04Aug1921 he & Mildred Koontz were married in Bond Co. They later divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Wanda) Scott of Greenville; son, R. Sam of Glendale, GA; sister, Matilda Lurkins of Greenville; 5 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 son, Erwin D.; brothers, Edwin, Emil, John, Henry & Harlan; sisters, Kate Scheu & 1 in infancy; 1 grand & 1 great-grandchild.
Memorials: American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
