Jaunita Newton, 69, of Canyon died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Brooks Chapel with Terry Callis officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

Jaunita Newton was born June 25, 1945, in Bromide, Okla., to Nathan and Christine Ellis. She married Charles Newton on Aug. 30, 1963, in Canyon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2007. Jaunita was a wonderful homemaker and loved her grandchildren, animals and playing bingo.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Ellis; and a sister, Juanell Garrett.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Newton of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Chelcie Artho of Umbarger and Brice Bonham of Canyon; a great-grandchild, Caison Artho; a daughter-in-law, April Newton of Canyon; three sisters, Dorothy, Mearline and Pearline; a sister-in-law, Linda Thrasher and husband Charlie; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 11901 S. Coulter St., Amarillo, TX 79119.
