Betty L. Murphy, 88, of Waterloo, Iowa died Monday, January 25, 2015 at the ManorCare Health Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
Betty was born on December 24, 1926 in Newman Grove, Nebraska the daughter of Lloyd and Hildegard Peterson. As a young child she moved with her family to Shenandoah, Iowa where she graduated from High School. She later received her Registered Nursing Degree in Nebraska, and then moved to Iowa City, Iowa.
On June 23, 1950 she was married to Robert L. Murphy in Shenandoah, and the couple made their home in Iowa City, Iowa prior to moving to Dubuque, IA, Marshfield, WI, Davenport, IA, Racine, WI, Bettendorf, IA, Williamsport, PA, and Greenville, SC prior to coming to Waterloo, IA in 1978. Betty was employed as a Registered Nurse with Schoitz/St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo.
She is survived by two children: Tim (Kathryn) Murphy, Waterloo, IA and Elizabeth Murphy, Madison, WI. Two Grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister; Patricia Elliott, Farragut, IA, and a brother Robert Peterson, Ft. Collins, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Murphy in 2006.
Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Monday, at the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Waterloo, IA, with inurnment to follow.
