He attended Girard High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been a local laborer for many years. Maynard was a member of the Girard American Legion Post 494, Albion V.F.W, Erie County Volunteer Police Association Company 25, and had been a member of the Platea Fire Department for over 50 years. He belonged to the former Platea United Methodist Church. Maynard enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Parker Struchen; an infant daughter, Mary Anne; and five brothers: Forest, Raymond, Donald, Faye and William Struchen.
Maynard is survived by his partner, Zella Goodenow; sons: David Struchen and his wife, Donna, of Girard, and James Struchen, of Albion; a daughter, Laura Lewis, of Albion; two brothers: Frank Struchen, of North Carolina, and Clyde Struchen, of Conneaut; a sister, Maxine Roszell, of California; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
