Horace Jacob Birchfield, 84, of the Robinson Gap community, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 4, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Caro and Katherine DeHart Birchfield. Horace had worked for Carolina Building Supply, Hughes Building Supply and Carolina Wood Turning. He was a carpenter. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was preceded in death by seven brothers, a daughter, Patricia Jean Lambert and granddaughter, Cynthia Renee Fortner.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Edwards Birchfield; daughter, Rena Fortner of Marietta, Ga.; son, Zeke Birchfield of Bryson City; five grandchildren, Paula Parton, Jim Lambert, Leon Birchfield, Carla Fortner and Horace Duke Fortner;13 great-grandchildren.

There are all gone now, but they will never be forgotten - Glen, Carl, Sam, Milburn, Horace, Telitha, Frank, Marvin, Wade, Wiley, and Carroll. What a great family!
