She attended school in Cleveland, TN and, during her early years, worked in the ministry for the church in various locations in the United States. Upon marriage, she moved with her husband Jessie to pastor churches in Winder, GA, Dahlonega, GA, Dawsonville, GA, and two churches in Canada - Swan River, Manitoba and Vernon, British Columbia. When they returned to Cleveland in 1971, Irene and Jessie were involved with the newly organized Child Shelter Home on Stuart Road, where she served as the Director.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jessie Gaddis, her parents Urbane and Tillie Calfee, and two brothers, Albert Lee Calfee and Allen J. Calfee.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Gaddis and wife Judy and Jason Gaddis and wife Deborah, one grandson, Robbie Sherk and three granddaughters, Stacy Sherk and husband Darren, Amanda Roach and husband Bryan, and Kaitlyn Gaddis, and three great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Willystene Calfee and Helen Rainwater, and one brother, Usysses Calfee, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and her precious dog Polly.
Visitation will be in The church of God Zion Hill on Saturday, December 27th from 11:00 to 2:00. The Rverend Harvey Anders and Brother Herman Ard will conduct the service at 2:99 in the church. Interment will be at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
