Marilyn R. Heape, 84, of Parsons, passed away at 9:04 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society. She was born August 6, 1930 in Crystal, North Dakota to Gottlieb and Susan (Adams) Markel. She was raised and educated in Minot, North Dakota and was a 1948 graduate of Minot High School. She and Eldon “Al” Cline were married in 1951 in Minot, North Dakota. To that union, five daughters and three sons were born. She later married Robert L. Heape in Minot, North Dakota. To that union, one son was born. In 1974, the family moved to rural Cherryvale, Kansas where they lived until 1980. She then moved to Parsons, Kansas where she worked at the former Katy Hospital prior to her employment at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center where she worked as a developmental disability technician until retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons. For many years, she enjoyed volunteering at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor where she was affectionately known as the “Shopping Cart Lady”. She would visit with the residents at the nursing home, make a list of their needs, and then, in turn, shop for their requests. She also enjoyed volunteering as a “Pink Lady” at Labette Health in Parsons for several years. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Cline and his wife, Stacey, Mapleton, KS, Gerald Cline and his wife, Lori, Ord, NE and Robert Heape and his wife, Sharena, Parsons, KS; five daughters, Mary Serr and her husband, Mike, Bismarck, ND, Debi Lozensky and her husband, Jim, Antler, ND, Connie Cline, Girard, KS, Karen Barnett and her husband, Juan, Altamont, KS and Sandra Adams and her husband, Paul, Dyer, IN; fourteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Douglas Markel; an infant son, Terry Eldon Cline; and a grandson, Travis Serr in 1997. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
