Carroll Benton Lewis, 96, retired farmer, died at 2:45 p. m. Thursday at his home, 115 Morgan St.. after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. today at Maple Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. C. P. Currier Jr. officiated. Burial was in Maple Springs Cemetery with Smith Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Lewis was born in Arkansas, and spent most of his life as a farmer near Mercer. He moved to Jackson in 1947. His wife, Mrs. Bettie Faucett Lewis, died several years ago. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Byrum of Mercer, Mrs. Lula Byrum of Bemis, Mrs. Lela Yarbrough of Natalia, Texas, and Mrs. Wilma Wiggins of Jackson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gene Lewis, R. E. Rooks, Jack Mulherin, Ralph Pennington, Leonard Farr and Monroe Pope.
