Barbara was born November 27, 1927 in Erie, PA to the late Westley and Marie (Hammond) Miller. She received her education in Erie graduating from Erie Academy in 1945 and she is a former title holder of Miss Erie Pennsylvania.
On July 22, 1950 she was united in marriage to Joseph Shields in Erie. In 1965 Joseph took a transfer with General Telephone and they moved to Wausau. Barbara worked in various jobs in the Wausau area. After Joseph's death on August 21, 1993 she continued to make her home in the area until in later years when she resided at Kennedy Park.
Barbara is survived by one son Joseph (Lynn) Shields and their children and family Amy (Christopher) Hovden, Grace, Reagan, Cameron and Archer Hovden, Jill (John) Sjoberg and their children and family Will and Owen Sjoberg and Katie (Josh) Dart., one daughter Katharine (Michael) Schulfer of Wauwatosa, WI and their children Edmund Schulfer, Stephanie Schulfer .
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph Sr, and a sister Margo George Hickok.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at Helke Funeral Home 302 Spruce St Wausau at 11:00 am where visitation will be from 10:00 am until service. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter.
