Suzanne was known as a tireless worker for her community, social justice, and her political ideals. She was employed as a program coordinator for the Voluntary Action Center, Framer and Designer at The Framing Place in Moline, Executive Director at the Democratic Alliance of the 17th District, Administrator of the local office of the Attorney General, and shorter stints as coordinator of the Super City Campaign and the “Jobs for the Quad Cities” campaign.

Among her many community service activities were Chairman of the Rock Island Human Relations Commission, member of the State Human Relations Commission, President of Positive Peer Culture, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Youth Program, President of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, reader for the visually impaired at WVIK, steering committee of In from the Cold project for the homeless, member of the Quad Cities Rape Advisory Board, member of the board of the Boys and Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley, board member of Transitions for Mental Health Rehabilitation, member of the steering committee of the Quad Cities Committee for Handgun Control, member of the board of the NAACP and the Illinois Iowa Center for Independent Living as well as a longtime member of the Rock Island Rotary Club.

Suzanne’s great love was the political process starting with the presidential campaign of Franklin Roosevelt during her college years and including the coordination of campaigns for judges, Congressional candidates, and mayors. One of her most cherished memories was attending the 1980 Democratic Convention in New York City. She also loved giving classes on care of the elderly to the students of Palmer College of Chiropractic and watching the Cubs and the Bulls.

Suzanne belonged to Temple Emanuel, the Tri-City Jewish Center, and the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities where she was known for founding the Holocaust Remembrance Committee and writing and directing many musical productions for the Jewish community.

The community recognized her with a variety of honors including Queen of the Visiting Nurses Mardi Gras, the Martin Luther King “I Have a Dream” Award, A. T. Peara Service Above Self Award from the Rock Island Rotary, and an honorary doctorate from St. Ambrose University.
