Katherine M. Hawkins age 71 of Joplin, MO. passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 12, 1941 in Talihina, OK, to Jesse and Henrietta Jefferson James.

Katherine was employed in the banking industry retiring in 1972 from the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, MO. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Joplin, MO.

She married Thomas Hawkins on February 4, 1964 in Bolivar, MO, and he survives. She is also survived by one son, Thomas Hawkins Jr. and wife Cherie, Joplin, MO, and two daughters, Deanna Glass and husband Sonny, Miami, OK., Laura Kruger and husband Jeff, Linn, MO., one brother, Jonas James, one sister, Shirley Cogburn, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Katherine was preceded in death byher parents and one brother, Cecil Jefferson.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church; Joplin, MO. Burial with Indian Rites will follow at the Quapaw Tribal Cemetery, Miami, OK. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
