According to his Tennessee birth records, Mr. Murphy was the son of Aaron Ray Murphy and Elizabeth Ballentine.

Ben Murphy was inducted into service on 7 May 1943, and served in the 159th Engineers Combat Battalion (Corps Engineers). He received an honorable discharge on 11 Dec 1943.

He married Lula Graves on 11 May 1943, in Davidson County, Tennessee.

Mr. Murphy was a roofer in the construction industry when diagnosed with lung cancer. He had been a patient at the VA Hospital in Nashville for 13 days prior to his death.
