Jim was very active in scouting, both as a scout and as a leader, and proudly earned his Eagle Patch. He worked with Phillips Petroleum for several years. One of his jobs was charting progress maps down in the uranium mines. He married and divorced Sammie Faye Hodges twice. He also worked several years with Marathon Oil and retired in 1992 to San Angelo.
Mr. Brooks, 68, a longtime resident of San Angelo, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at his residence surrounded by his close friends and very special caretakers. Jim is survived by a niece, Dora Gayler and husband, Dan, a dear friend to Jim, of Dallas; nephew and favorite fishing buddy, Gary McAtee of Corpus Christi; great-niece, Brittney McAtee; great-nephew, David Gayner; and daughters, Kandy Davis and Kim Francisotta.
A Memorial service was held at noon Saturday, Dec. 20, at Johnson’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. The family requests that memorial donations be made to VistaCare Hospice. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at VistaCare Hospice, especially his sweet Susie, who always put a smile on his face.
