Paul James "Jim" Smith, age 59 of Kenton, passed away of cancer at his home with his family by his side at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Jim was born July 23, 1955 in Fort Eustis, Newport News, Virginia, the son of the late Paul James Smith and Clara Francis (nee Smith). Being raised by his birth mother, until she would abandon her family. He and brother Bruce would later be raised by his father and Step-mother Dextra (nee McPherson). He was first married to Denise Crawford, they divorced, later he then married Libby Baughman, they divorced. Jim is survived by his daughters Blakeney (Devon) Jones of Lima, Ohio, Cary Smith of Forest, OH, and Courtney Smith of Kenton, OH; grandchildren Cedrick Murray, Morgyn Jones, Tyra Gallegos, Toni Gallegos, and Thane Gallegos; brothers Bruce Smith of New Tazewell, TN and Ron (Christina) Smith of Atlanta, GA; and his sister Stacey (Tony) Jennings of Tazewell, TN.

He graduated from Laurel High School, Laurel Maryland in 1973 and was a volunteer firemen in the Laurel, MD Fire Dept. Entering the Army 1973, based in their fire service at Fort Ord., California. Jim was retired from the Kenton Fire Dept. after working for 27 years where he served as Captain during his time at the department. He was currently the Hardin County Fairgrounds caretaker. Jim was a member of the Kenton Moose Family Center #428, the Kenton Latham Chapter Masonic Lodge #154, and the New Tazewell Tennessee VFW Post #8779. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving at Fort Ord, California during the Vietnam Era.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Kenton. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Kenton First United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends for one hour (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) prior to the service. Pastor Randy Manns will officiate. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Kenton Amvets Post 1994. Memorial contributions can be made to Hardin County Hospice or Women of the Moose Auxiliary, Kenton Lodge #428. Condolences can be sent via www.stoutcrates.com.
