Mrs J H Pirrung, of McDonald, was struck by extra freight No 702, in charge of Conductor A D Cales at Thurmond at 1:30 Wed am and perhaps fatally injured. She was knocked down and her left leg at the knee and her left arm at the elbow were cut off.
Mrs Pirrung and her husband and Manager Scott, of the Thurmond hotel were going from the hotel to the station when the accident occurred. They seem to have mistook what track an approaching freight train was backing upon to let No 5 pass and Mrs Pirrung was caught before she could clear the track. She is the wife of J H Pirrung, bookkeeper for the Loup Creek Ice and Bottling works at McDonald. The victim was taken on a special train to McKendree hospital.
Father Jenkins was called to McKendree on No 13 to see the unfortunate woman, who is a sister of Mrs Pat Twohig, of Thayer.
