Three-year-old A’Marion Bounds died after what a police investigator described Tuesday in Grenada Municipal Court as a string of abusive episodes that lasted at least five days.
Lead Investigator Kenneth Sanders told Judge Jimmy Vance that an investigation revealed that Bounds, his twin sister, and another female sibling suffered abuse between Dec. 18 and Dec. 23.
The testimony was given Tuesday at a preliminary hearing for Marqueze Collins, 27, who is charged with murder in connection with the boy’s death on Christmas Eve.
Bounds died of blunt force trauma, according to an autopsy conducted at the state crime lab.
Collins stood before the judge, shackled hand and foot, in an orange jumper, with his father, the Rev. John Collins, beside him.
A man of slight build, Collins spoke not a word, and kept his head down as Sanders recounted testimony that the child’s mother, Cortinia Ewing, gave police shortly after her son died. Collins is reportedly Ewings’ boyfriend.
Both Collins and Ewing were bound over to the Grenada County Grand Jury.
