Norman, his half-brother by Lulu Etta Skinner, and five years his junior, wanted to join the US Marine Corps at 15, but was too young. He adopted his deceased older brother's identity and retained it for the rest of his life.
Norman/Lyle married Darlyn L Palmer 24 November, 1945 in Buffalo, NY.
I have been confused by the "William vs. Wayne" entries in the history, and I've gone with "Wayne" because that's how his son remembers it. It's possible (although I don't have evidence) that Norman never knew, or forgot, what the "W" was for originally. His own father was Wayne, so he may have assumed that part, too. I'm willing to be persuaded; it's just that I've given weight to his son's memory.
ETA: Rich Vance has persuaded me with further documentation.
