Ida Eloise Peach West was one of the six daughters of John Hixon and Nannie Wheless Peach. She grew up in Perote, Alabama and graduated from The Female college in Tuskeegee, Alabama (now Huntingdon College, Montgomery,Ala.) Her marriage to Clarence Henry West took place in the fall of 1905 at the home of Mrs. John Hixon Peach and due to the recent death of her father only members of the immediate families were present. In that era Eloise West was proud to be inducted into the United Daughters of the Confederacy, entitling her to the rights and privileges of that Order by her father J.H. Peach who served in Company B 53rd Alabama Regiment CSA. Eloise was influenced by her father's experience as a calvary soldier who was captured and as a prisoner of war suffering from pneumonia was sent to a Union hospital. While John Peach was delirious with fever a mustard plaster was placed on his chest and left a very long and indeterminate time. Mr. Peach recalled regaining consciousness and calling for help. A Union physician who responded grasped the plaster and pulled, tearing off the plaster and all the skin from John Peach's chest. Seeing the skin on the plaster and the deep burn on the chest, the surgeon said, "Ha! I just peeled a peach!" Eloise Peach was a person of strong character and integrity, a devoted wife and loving mother. All their married life Clarence and Eloise led quiet lives leaning on each other for strength and close companionship. On May 28, 1954 death came to Clarence West. Exactly one month later Eloise West suffered a stroke which left her right side paralyzed. She lived for twelve years and died on May 17, 1966. She was 82 years old. She lies beside Clarence West in the Louisville Cemetery.
