Clarence Henry West, youngest of the six sons of Charles Pinckney West, Jr. and Clarissa White West was born in Union Springs, Alabama. He received his early schooling in Union Springs. At near-by Perote, Alabama was a well known boarding school with as many as one hundred fifty boarding students. The West sons attended this school from time to time. With an inheritance from their grandfather Charles Pinckney West, Sr. all six were able to earn professional degrees. Clarence West graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in pharmacy. His first drug store was one with his brother Thomas West. The stationery letter-head read West Bros.Drug Co.Incorporated Prescription Druggist, 114 Monroe Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama. In 1905 when he was 25 years old Clarence West married Eloise Peach, daughter of John Hixon Peach, a prominent merchant in Perote, Alabama. By 1908, Clarence West had opened a drug store in Louisville, Alabama and there served the community as their pharmacist for forty years. He was a Deacon of the Louisville Baptist Church for fifty years. He served on the Barbour County Board of Education for many years and was serving as Chairman of that Board at the time of his death. Clarence and Eloise West had three children: Eloise, married Thomas Peach. She died in 1932 and is buried in the West plot in the Louisville, Alabama cemetery; Clarence Henry West, Jr. married Mildred Morton. He is buried in the Louisville cemetery beside Mildred, his wife; and John Hill West married Margaret Helen Studstill. He died October 23,2002 and is buried in the Studstill-West plot, Andalusia Memorial Garden in Andalusia, Alabama.
