Johnie Wesley Huckeba Jr., 69, of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015. Born June 15, 1945, to Adelene and Johnie W. Huckeba Sr. in Thomasville, Ga., he graduated from Thomasville High School in 1963. Johnie was proud to be a Bulldog. He married Linda Huddleston in June 1963, in Boston, Ga., and lived in Thomasville for many years before relocating his family to Cape Coral.

Johnie attended Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga., and was a draftsman. He was self-employed for many years in Florida and later became a licensed electrician. Johnie devoted many years of service to the Cape Coral Pop Warner Youth Football Program, Cape Coral Little League Baseball, Cape Coral Babe Ruth Baseball Program and Cape Coral Girls Softball Program. He loved sports and enjoyed teaching youngsters how to play the game. Johnie will be remembered as the loving father who never missed his children’s games, special events, and was always there cheering on the sidelines or in the front row.

He was a devoted husband to Linda for 50 wonderful years of marriage. His grandchildren were special to him, and he enjoyed spending time with them often. In his later years, he enjoyed researching his ancestry and was responsible for acquainting many Huckeba family members across the country. Johnie was surrounded by many who loved and enjoyed his sense of humor, intelligence, thoughtfulness and genuine way.

Survivors include daughter, Cara (Mark); son, John Daniel (Michelle); stepdaughter Melinda (Gary) Jett; three sisters, Margie, Ondria, and Juanita (Cliff).; four brothers, Alvin, Maurice (Janet), Myron (Angela),and Curtis (Vickie); four grandchildren, Amanda, Alyssa, and Natalie and James F.

Johnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda; parents, Adelene and Johnie W. Huckeba Sr.; stepfather Odell Chastain; brother, Doc Chastain; and daughter, Carissa.

Visitation for family to receive friends will be held on Monday, Feb. 2, between 10 and 11 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m. at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 SW Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.
