He was the son of William T Allen, a prominent lawyer, and Susan Pritchartt from Fairfax County Va. The Allen family moved to Pettis Co Missouri prior to Civil War. George and Melvina had two daughters, Minnie born in May 1870 and Mollie born in October 1871. Melvina died in April 1872, and George married America Jane Thatcher in March 1873. They had six children: Eva, Bertie, Clara, Mattie, Gussie and Ruth.
