Lois Virginia Knaub, 72, of Dover, died Monday evening at the home of her son in Dover. She was the wife of the late Curtis L. Knaub.

Mrs. Knaub was born in York. She was the daughter of the late Latimer Smith and of the late Goldie (Bentz) Smith Shetter.

She was a candymaker for over 30 years with the D.E. Wolfgang Candy Co., retiring in Jan. 1992. She was a member of Dover-Bethany United Methodist Church and the American Association of Retired Persons. A foster parent from 1952 to 1975, she cared for 36 children during that time.

She also was a former den mother with Troop 144 Den 2 of the York-Adams County Area Boy Scouts, serving for 10 years.

Mrs. Knaub is survived by two sons, Curtis L. Knaub II of Dover, and Martin L. Trimmer of York; two daughters, Wanda L. Stahle and Terry L. Schuler, both of York; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lamar E. Smith of Seven Valleys, and Roysford Smith of York; a sister, Yvonne Michels of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepbrother, James Smith of York; and two stepsisters, Purdon Gillespie and Brenda Shue, both of York.
