Son of Samuel Smith House and Sarah Jane Parks.

William House married Ophelia Wood on 29 Oct 1873, in Hardeman County, Tennessee.

Their children included Frances Tate (m. Colley), William Jr, Mary Wood (m. Cayce), Robert Mansfield, Ophelia Caroline (1881-1954, m. Allen), Samuel (1884-1933), Lillias ("Lillie", m. Dale), and Robert Wood House.

The Nashville Christian Advocate, dated 31 Oct 1895, published obituaries for both William House and his mother, Sarah "Sallie" Jane, reported as having died the same day. William was an alumnus of the University of Virginia, married to Ophelia C. Wood daughter of the Hon. Robert H. Wood of Bolivar, TN; they were parents of eight children (confirmed by 1900 US Federal census).

His mother, Sarah J. Parks House, was born in Williamson Co., TN; married Samuel Smith House on 25 Sep 1845; and they were parents of ten children. It is worth noting that tombstones were reported as having been transcribed in both the old Franklin City Cemetery and in Rest Haven Cemetery for Mrs. House, both listing her date of death as 31 July 1892.

He died one morning around 10 o'clock after an illness of less than a week. He was a first class lawyer and in a great many respects, a good man.
