Samuel's family moved from South Carolina to Gwinnett county, Georgia shortly after he was born. He married Henrietta Duncan Nov 8, 1861. He served on the Confederate side, during the Civil War. He was killed in action while his wife was pregnant with their first child, Samuel Milton Davis II.
