A resident of Love County most of her life, she was the daughter of the late James and Annie (Cox) Turner. On November 22, 1916, she was married to Jack Carter who preceded her in death in 1958. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Carter, Jr. in 1944 and by a daughter, Mrs. Muriel Irons in 1981..

Mrs. Carter had lived in Love County until 1957 when she moved to Ardmore. She was a member of the Burneyville Baptist Church..

Survivors include four sons, Don Carter and Bill Dean Carter of Ardmore, Turner Carter of Oklahoma City and James Henry Carter of Sussex, Wisconsin; two daughters, Mrs. Beryle Moore of Ardmore and Mrs. Jean Cole of Midland, Texas; a half-brother, Beeler Turner of Marietta; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. .

Interment was in the Burneyville Cemetery with funeral arrangements under the direction of the Goodrich-Anderson Funeral Home. Her grandson, Robert Moore, Billy Carter, Marvin Carter, Curtis Moore, Jackie Carter and mike Word, served as bearers.
