Myrtle Frances Humbyrd, 84, of Alaska died Dec. 29, 2004, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, Alaska with her family at her side.
She was born Jan. 4, 1920 in Black Rock, Wa. She met her husband, James, in Sunnyside, who preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1981. They had two children, daughter, Peggy, and son, Wes. The family moved to Hoquiam in 1946. After her husband's passing she moved back to Sunnyside to live with her sister, Bessie, until her passing. She moved to Homer in April 2003 to be closer to her son, Wes, and granddaughter, Jodi.
Myrtle worked for Hoquiam Veneer Plant for nearly 30 years and during World War II volunteered wherever she could lend a helping hand. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where she was an active member in Hoquiam and Sunnyside, for over 58 years.
Myrtle was a caring, giving person who made many friends throughout her life. She was a great cook who loved sewing, knitting, ceramics, picking berries, clam digging, fishing, camping, and canning, but what she loved more then anything else was spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her smile and great sense of humor will be missed, but her memory will live on in all of us who knew her and loved her.
