Walter R Back, 72 of Gadsden, Alabama, died March 4, 1998. He and his family moved to Gadsden from Middletown, Ohio in 1961 after he purchased the local Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He was a veteran of WWII, having served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as a bodyguard to the Admiral aboard the USS Wyoming for 18 months during the war. He was a rifle instructor at Parris Island, S.C. and was an expert rifleman. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gadsden. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Henrietta Howard; daughter, Shenley; sons, Keith and Kent Back; grand-children; extended family. Entombment at Forrest Mausoleum.
