"Mrs. Elizabeth J. Hadden, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Smith, 548 east Jackson street, at 5 o'clock Saturday evening, of general debility, after a protracted illness, at the advances age of 88 years. The deceased was born in Lexington, Kentucky, but at the age of 20 years, came to Clay County, with her parents, and had since made her home here, having been a resident of the county for nearly seventy years. Shortly after coming to Brazil, the deceased was married to Thomas J. Hadden, who later enlisted in the United States army at the breaking out of the civil war and was killed in the battle of Atlanta. Ten children were born to this union of whom but three survive, Thomas J Hadden of Indianapolis; Mrs. Scott Cromwell of Clay city; and Mrs. Sarah Smith of this city. Funeral services were conducted at the residence this afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Hill cemetery."
