David attended grades 1-3 at St. Winifred School in the Mount Lebanon suburb in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, grades 4-8 at St. Thomas More School in the Bethel Park suburb in the South Hills, then Seton La Salle Catholic High School in Mt. Lebanon.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame and attended Vanderbilt University Medical School. Between Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, he joined the United States Air Force.
David enjoyed fishing, loved Shakespeare, and was very mechanical. He could take a car apart and put it back together. During his 3rd year at Notre Dame, in 1988, he medaled in the Chicago Marathon, finishing in 5 hours. He traveled around the world and made it his goal to visit every ocean.
David Richard Freedy passed away on October 4, 1993, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, at his parents' home on Sante Fe Avenue in Bethel Park. He had completed his 3rd year of medical school. He is survived by his parents and by his siblings: Susan, Tucker, Anne Marie, and Joseph Michael.
Arrangements were by and Visitation was at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15315. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church by Fr. Scott Seethaler, OFM Cap. with 11 other priests concelebrating. Interment followed at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
