Bonnie Morrison Siple, age 81, of Clayplant Road, Brockway, PA, went to be with our Precious Heavenly Father on Monday, January 12, 2015, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after an unexpected illness.

Bonnie was born on Valentine’s Day of 1933 to Charles and Effie Morrison, also of Brockway, who preceded her in death.

She was married to Glenn Douglas Siple for 58 years. Together they raised their daughter, Bonnie Jo Siple [Renee], of Cranberry Township, PA, and Marshall Douglas Siple [Leanne], of DuBois, PA. She was the proud grandmother of Zachary Jonathan and Douglas Geer whom she treasured spending time with. Bonnie was preceded in death by her siblings Dale Morrison, Willena Mae “Billie” Denworth, Charles “Perry” Morrison, Leslie Morrison, Glendora Forsythe, and Ruth Heatherdale.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters LaRue Podmore and Jean Keys, brother-in-law Patrick Keys, and her many nieces and nephews, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.

Bonnie was a proud graduate of Slippery Rock State Teachers College (Slippery Rock University) where she received her degree in Health and Physical Education. She taught at St. Mary’s School District for 6 years before coming to Brockway Area School District. In addition to teaching health and physical education, Bonnie also taught social studies at Brockway for 32 years. She retired in 1993. Her passion for teaching was exceeded only by her love for her students.

Bonnie was an active member of the churches she attended during her lifetime. She frequently taught Sunday School, served as a board member, and happily served in any way called upon. Her fellow church goers could always count on receiving a hug from Bonnie every Sunday morning at the Beechtree Union Church.

Bonnie had a love for sports. You would hear her cheering at every high school football game, and she rarely missed a Penn State football game on TV. She was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and was happy to tell Coach Tomlin how to win. Bonnie’s true sport passion was golf. She was an avid golfer who relished every opportunity to play in her ladies league and with friends and family. She was happy to teach new golfers how to play and offer tips to seasoned golfers who welcomed her help. Since her retirement, Bonnie became a gifted quilter. She loved making quilts for friends and family and delighted presenting them as gifts.

Bonnie enjoyed traveling, which she was able to do more of after her retirement. She spent many winters enjoying the Florida sun, but her favorite trip was with her husband when they explored Hawaii on two occasions.

In the summer Bonnie was happy to share the tomatoes she grew in her garden. In the winter you could always find an apple pie in the oven made with the apples from her tree in the back yard. Her pumpkin bread was a favorite of many.

Bonnie was a fiercely devoted woman of faith. She loved the Lord God and was His true and faithful servant. She was a powerful prayer for those who were in need of God’s grace. Her family is comforted by the fact that Bonnie was welcomed to Heaven by Jesus as she will one day be the first to welcome them with open arms and her beautiful smile. She would say to all who mourn her passing, “Rejoice always; pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 16-18).

Calling hours are Thursday from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM at Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home in Brockway. Calling hours will also be at Beechtree Union Church from 10:00-11:00AM on Friday morning before the funeral at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made in Bonnie’s name (Bonnibel Morrison Siple Scholarship in the memo line) to Slippery Rock University Foundation, Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA, 16057.
