Ann Lucille Kearse Covington, of Charlotte, formerly of Rockingham, crossed over to eternal life on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
Ann was born July 26, 1920 in Enoree, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late W.S. and Mattie Montjoy Kearse. Ann was blessed with two loving, devoted husbands. She was married to Perry Cole Covington Sr. for 49 years before his death in 1988. The Lord blessed her with her second husband, Hubert Huggins Jr. in 1998. They were married until Hubert's death in 2009. Hubert was a tremendous help to Ann when her son, Perry Cole Covington Jr., passed away unexpectedly in August 1998.
Ann found joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. The people who loved her found joy in her presence. Ann was generous with her time and resources to many causes that were important to her. She was lovingly known as "The Queen" to her family.
Mrs. Covington is survived by her daughters, Martha Grice and Pamela Covington of Charlotte; siblings, Charles Kearse and Norma McKee; and son-in-law Eferin Grice. Her memory will also live in the hearts of her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ann Kearse Covington will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with the Rev. Michael Sykes officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church.
