James Joe Sloan, age 27, was killed Saturday in Houston, Tex. He reportedly was shot with a 30-30 rifle by a 17 year old boy. Sloan had lived in Ola most of his life, served 3 1/2 years in the Navy in World War II.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Sloan of Ola; a bother, Charles Sloan of Ola; two sisters, Mrs. Patsy Ruth O'Klear and Mrs. Pauline Spears, both of Detroit, Mich.; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lula Lewis of Ola.
