He was the son of the late Samuel Carl and Bernice E. Owenby Chaney. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Carl Chaney Jr., several aunts and uncles, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pierce and Kate Hughes.

Mr. Chaney was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and as Chairman of the Administrative Board.

He was retired from Federal Aviation Agency as an Air Traffic Control Specialist and was a United States Marine Corps veteran.

The graveside service and interment were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2003 at Greer Cemetery, Roan Mountain.
