Services for Mark Britton, 49, of Gainesville are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Herman Plott officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.

Mr. Britton died April 23, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.

He was born Nov. 3, 1956, in Gainesville to Dale and Wanda Elkins Britton. Mark graduated from Gainesville High School and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Texas Tech University. He was employed by Britton Drilling Company in Olney, Texas; Britton Brangus; Denton Independent School District; the U.S. Census Bureau and Denton State School in the Adaptive Equipment Department, and was a partner in the Rusty Anchor Seafood Restaurant in Grapevine.

He was an Eagle Scout and received the Order of the Arrow in 1970. He was a lifetime member of the Whaley United Methodist Church. iIn 1985, he was named Master Councilor of the Gainesville Chapter of DeMolay. He received the Degree of Chevalier and investiture of the Legion of Honor. He was a representative of DeMolay for the State of Texas. He was a 32 degree Mason and was a member of the River Valley Chapter of the Scottish Rite.

His hobbies included golf, Chess, Fishing and camping. He received his 25-year Membership Pin in the Masonic Lodge at the same time his father, Dale Britton, received his 50-year Membership Pin.

Survivors include his parents, Dale and Wanda Britton of Gainesville; niece and her husband, Janine and Russ Blakeborough of St. Louis, Mo.; great-niece, Ella Briarn Blakeborough; nephew, Daniel Sorrenson of Carrollton; brother and sister-in-law, Arch and Lela Britton of Gainesville; sister, Ann Sorrenson Spinks of Lewisville; and very special friend, Kathy Franks of Denton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Elkins and Mr. and Mrs. Arch Dale Britton Sr.; and sister, Paula Britton.

Pallbearers are Phillip Cheaney, Kenny Long, Eric Patterson, Ken Manthei, Jonathon Simon, and Nelson Newton.

No visitation is planned.
