HITCHCOCK – Surrounded by family and friends, Helen Norwood passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on May 28, 2012, after a brief, unexpected illness.

Born June 22, 1936 in Mountainair, New Mexico, Mrs. Norwood had been a resident of Hitchcock for 6 years, previously of Brewton, Alabama and Snyder, Texas. She was a woman who spent her life taking care of her family and friends. Mrs. Norwood was active in many charitable activities and loved gardening, reading, cooking, baking, playing cards and dominoes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Glennie Bullard; husband Gerald “Dex” Norwood; brother, Don Bullard; and sister, Norma Spain.

Survivors include her loving son, Gerald Norwood of Plainview, TX; daughters, Brenda Threadgill and husband, Roy of Anton, TX, Tammy Saldana and husband, Johnny of Angleton, TX, Tracie Norwood and partner, Shannon Zuniga of Port St. Joe, FL; brothers, Gary Bullard and wife, Lois of Lubbock, TX, George Bullard of Gardendale, TX; sisters, Stella Pritchett and husband, James, Sherri Williams, all of Hitchcock; special friend Nora Gibbs; grandchildren, Matthew Early (Claire) of Plano, TX, Jason Early of Houston, Johnny Saldana, Jr. (Danielle) of Pearland, Jesse Saldana of Lemoore, CA; great-grandchildren, Tessa Lynn Saldana, Zoe Aviana Saldana both of Pearland; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many family members, friends and ICU nurses and doctors of Mainland Medical Center, especially Ruth and Susan- you all helped make her death a beautiful testimony to her life.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Hitchcock, with Reverend Grayson Glass officiating. A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home,(409) 925-3501.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church, 6601 FM 2004, Hitchcock, TX 77563,(409) 986-5193.
