Doris Carey, 82, of Norfolk, widow of Charles R. Carey, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Tabitha Health Care Services in Lincoln. Doris was born in Norfolk to the late Gene and Hazel (Leslie) Lee. She spent her entire life in Norfolk graduating from Norfolk High School in 1946. She graduated from Norfolk Junior College and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and she also graduated from the Conservatory of Music and was a very accomplished pianist. She taught in the Pierce Public and Central City Public schools before returning to the Norfolk area. She also taught in rural Stanton and Madison County schools for several years. After leaving the teaching field she worked for the Supt of Social Services in the Norfolk and Creighton areas.
Doris is survived by her daughter Cheryl Lynn of Lincoln; a son, Doug Carey of Lincoln; one brother, ArtLee of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nephews; many family members; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at the Home for Funerals, Norfolk.
