On Valentine's Day, 1948, she married Percy Grubbs. Their first home was in Tupelo where they lived until 1964 at which time Percy was transferred and they relocated to Jackson. They remained in Jackson until Percy's retirement in 1982 and then returned to Tupelo. During retirement years Percy and Connie enjoyed traveling and leading travel agency tours across the U.S. and Canada. In 1999, they moved into a Lake South Cottage at Traceway Retirement Center where they remained until Percy's death in 2009. Connie was a mother and homemaker, taking great pride in both professions. She will be remembered for her quick wit, contagious smile and kind nature. She will be sorely missed by so many.
Connie and Percy were among the first members of St. Luke UMC in Tupelo and always enjoyed the fellowship of that congregation as well as their Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, at Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dr. Rick Brooks of St. Luke UMC will officiate the service. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include one son, Ray (Debra) of Ridgeland; one grandson, Michael of Charlottesville, Va.; one sister, Zelma Whitehead of Nettleton and her daughter, Kay of Belden; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Grubbs of New Albany and the Rev. Mildred Grubbs of Tupelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves two special people who were like family to her, Mrs. Karen McGee and Mrs. Jennifer Claseman, who over the recent past provided loving care to her.
