Joey B. Ellis Murphy, longtime Blackfoot resident passed away in Boise, Idaho on January 9, 2015 at a local long-term care facility.

Joey was born April 13, 1920 in Blackfoot to Jack Ellis and Blanche Jaggers Ellis, Joey was one of eight Ellis children. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1938.

Joey married Jake Murphy on December 24, 1938, they had three children and built their life in Blackfoot.

Joey was a long time member of the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Blackfoot, where she and her children where regular attendees. Joey taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women Organization helping many local charities.

Joey worked at State Hospital South as a Licensed Practical Nurse until her retirement in 1982. She remained active in the church after retirement, and was recognized with the '8 Who Make a Difference' award from KIVI-TV for her efforts to donate items to chemotherapy patients.

Joey is survived by her three children, Patrick J. (Carolyn) Murphy of Burley, Idaho, William D. Murphy of Pocatello, Idaho and Margy (Stephen) Murphy Cooper of Boise, Idaho; she is also survived by nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; a brother; and one grandchild, Patrick K. Murphy.

Joey was blessed with a large close-knit family, she was close with her sisters and the happiest of times in her life were when her house and yard on N. Stout Avenue were filled with family. A life of hard work, always thinking of others first, and a strong Christian faith will forever provide a shining light for the rest of her family to follow.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot, Idaho. Visitation with family and friends will begin before the service at 12:00 Noon until time of service. Interment will follow the service at Grove City Cemetery.
