Born June 26, 1911, to James and Elizabeth Carey, she passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at her home, from cancer. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Chicago.
A lifelong resident of West Chicago, Mrs. Madison was a member of St. Mary's Church of West Chicago and taught in the CCD program for the church for many years. She began her teaching career at West Chicago High School after graduating from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater in 1934. After marrying her husband, Donald, in 1942, and raising her family, in the early 1960's, she resumed her teaching career at St. Mary's School and later transferred to Lincoln School where she retired from in 1971. She was a well-known teacher to many in West Chicago from high school to second grade.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Lance) Hittman of West Bend, Wis., Dan of Port Wayne, Wis., Tom (Jane) of Cheery Valley, Calif., Martha (Jon) Stults of Maple Park, Ill., Nancy (David) Sujal [sic, recte Sujak] of Wheaton, Jim (Ann) of Gahanna, Ohio, and Joyce (Ron) Petrzilka of St. Charles; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Madison in 1982; her parents; and brothers, James and Eugene Carey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with liturgical wake services held at 5 p.m.
