Florence Gorsline Services Wednesday

81-year-old Former Clarke County Woman Died Near LeRoy On March 13.


Funeral services for Mrs. Florence R. Gorsline who passed away Monday morning were held from the Webster Funeral Home, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F.C. McCallon. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery [Note: Greenwood is the section of Maple Hill Cemetery- on the west side of South Ridge Road ~TLMP].


Florence Rebecca, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Sellers, was born November 17, 1857, in Greencastle, Indiana, and passed away Monday morning, March 13, being at the time of her death 81 years, 4 months, and 26 days of age.


She came to Iowa in a covered wagon with her parents in the fall of 1877, where they settled on a farm near Conway, Iowa.


On December 24, 1885, she was married to Charles F. Gorsline who passed to the great beyond June 17, 1930. To this union were born four boys and two girls, all of whom survive: Ray E. of Butler, Mo.; Roy A. of Fort Madison; Louis M. of Osceola; Mrs. Ethel DeVore of Humeston, Iowa; George L. of Libertyville, Ill.; and Alma Luella of Humeston.


She also leaves to mourn her passing fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Una McGrew of Lenox, two brothers, Edwin R. of Kohoko, Mo., and Chesley R. of Lenox, Iowa.


One sister and four brothers preceded her in death, Columbus S., William H., John F., Albert M., and Mrs. Luella Ray.


She united with the Methodist church early in life and then in 1900 at North English, she united with the Christian church with the other members of her family.


She has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clyde DeVore since 1932. Her other daughter, Alma, made her home here also and she with Mrs. DeVore and family did all they could to make life pleasant for the mother during her declining years.
