Evelyn (Lichty) Carlson, 97, Geneva, was born September 28, 1917, in Carleton, NE. She was the first of four children born to David and Isabel (Brammeier) Lichty. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Bethel Church of the Brethren and later transferred to the Methodist Church where she was a long-time member and worshipper.

She attended District #53 for grade school and her freshman year at Carleton. In 1930 the family moved to Edgar, NE and she graduated from there in 1934. After graduating from high school, she taught school for four years.

On February 26, 1938, she married Myron W. Carlson and 2 sons were born to their union, Larry and Roger.

In May of 1938 they moved to Hebron and made their home there until 1941 when they moved to Grand Island and worked at the Ordnance Plant until the war ended in 1946.

After leaving the plant, they returned back to small-town Nebraska where they had their first son, Larry, while living in Chester, NE. In 1950 Myron, Evelyn and Larry packed up and moved to Waterville, Kansas, where they lived until moving to Lincoln, NE in 1955. After moving to Lincoln they had their second son, Roger.

In 1957 they moved to Geneva, NE and Geneva is where they made their home up until Evelyn moved into Fairview Manor in Fairmont in September of 2013 at the age of 96.

After moving to Geneva Evelyn worked as a waitress at the Hilltop Café for a few years before starting her long-time career as a grocery store clerk at Safeway Grocery Store. Many people who shopped at Safeway remember how meticulous she was when ringing in groceries and she always had a smile on her face.

In 1988 Myron and Evelyn celebrated a milestone celebrating their 50th Anniversary.

Evelyn was a member of the Mother's Club and the Suburbanite Extension Club and enjoyed working in her church circle.

She enjoyed collecting stamps and her stamp collection, but her favorite pastime was quilting, and each grandchild received a quilt that she made by hand and put every stitch in.

Once Evelyn became unable to drive, she had a lot of support from her family and friends. To her they were the greatest friends and family a person could ask for. She always knew if she asked they would pick her up for anything, if it were to play cards or go to get her hair done. Her daughter-in-law, Jo, helped Evelyn a lot in the fact she got her groceries once a week and would come over and clean what Evelyn couldn't. She was Evelyn's go-to person when she needed something and Jo was more than happy to do it.

Evelyn was a genuine, kind-hearted woman who loved her family very much. Her two sons were her rock after Myron passed away on August 22, 2004, at the age of 93. She was a loving wife of 66 years, proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; parents, David and Isabel Lichty; one sister, Esther and one brother, Don; and daughter-in-law, Kay Carlson.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Carlson and significant other, Linda Heinisch, Roger and Jo Carlson; sister, Helen Holroyd; grandchildren Jeanne (Chip) Kay, Lori (Joe) Grubbs, Travis (Angie) Carlson, Heather (Michael) Brower, and great-grandchildren; Jessica Kay, Carley Kay, Emily Kay, Tanner Grubbs and Emmitt Brower; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services took place on January 10 at the United Methodist Church in Geneva with Pastor Michelle Gowin officiating. No visitation-cremation. During the service, there were two recorded hymns; "One Day at a Time" by Cristy Lane and "Beyond the Moon" by Tex Ritter. Along with those two songs the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art", with the playing of the organ by Sondra Myers.

There was a private family burial in the Ong Cemetery preceding the service.
