"Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 20, in the Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home for Mrs. Anna Belle Vandeventer, 85, who died Thursday evening, February 17, in a St. Joseph health care center after a long illness. The Rev. W.O. (Jack) Yates officiated at the rites. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery here.
Mrs. Vandeventer, the daughter of Judd and Sara Hutchison, was born November 20, 1897 near Bolckow and spent most of her early life around Graham. The past 40 years she had lived in the Mound City area. She was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church.
On April 28, 1923, she was married to E.C. (Tex) Vandeventer, and to them were born two children, Verlene Karsten of Mound City, and Lloyd Vandeventer, St. Joseph. She also leaves one brother, Loren Hutchison of St. Joseph; four grandchildren; Larry Karsten, Nevada, Mo, Carol Karsten, Craig, Vicki Karsten, Mound City, and Barbara Hoerath, St. Joseph; three great-grandchildren, Kris Karsten, Amy and Ryan Hoerath; and two step great-grandchildren, Sean and Angie Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tex Vandeventer, in 1974; a grandson, Thomas Eugene Vandeventer in 1966, also by her parents and three brothers.
Pallbearers for the service were Junior Griffith, Denzil Griffith, Phil Bowness, Joe Bowness, Eldon Davis and Gerald Davis."
