Irving C. Blodgett, Winchester, Dies

Irving Clarence Blodgett, 69, of 4 Harrington Rd. Winchester, a Boston & Maine Railroad employee for 52 years until his retirement in November, 1951, died yesterday at his home.

Mr. Blodgett, who was born in Saratoga, N. Y. started with the B. & M. when he was 17 and rose through the ranks from fireman to engineer, helper mechanic, trainmaster and finally supervisor of schedules.

He was a charter member of Elks in Greenfield, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the New England Railroad Club.

He leaves his wife, Julia (Sears), and two grandchildren. His son, the late Col. Robert S. Blodgett, was graduated from West Point and served as aide to Gen. MacArthur in World War II.

A solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Washington street, Winchester, tomorrow morning at 9. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield.

Blodgett, 69, who died in Winchester yesterday will take place Thursday at 8.15 at the Bennett funeral home, Winchester, with a solemn high mass of requiem at 9 in St. Mary’s Church there. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield at 1.30 p. m. Mr. Blodgett a former resident of this town and a long-time employee of the Boston and Maine Railroad, was born in Saratoga, N. Y. on November 10, 1883. He was the father of the late Col. Robert S. Blodgett. He leaves his wife, the former Julia Sears; a brother, Robert of Princeton; and a sister, Flora in the West.
